The finalists for the Food Awards England 2022 have been revealed and Berkshire has been recognized in more ways than one. The awards aim to recognize talent across the food industry and reward restaurants, hotels, cafes and more.
Many restaurants in Berkshire have been nominated. These nominations are in categories that include Best Mexican Establishment, Best Italian Establishment, Best Café/Bistro of the Year and Best Hotel Restaurant of the Year.
In the best hotel restaurant of the year category, seven establishments were nominated both in the north and in the south as well as in the center of the lands. Of the seven nominated hotels in the south, two are based in Berkshire.

The Berkshire-based hotel restaurants are The Roseate, located in Reading town centre, and The Great House in Sonning, located in the heart of Sonning village. These two hotels are very well known and have already won several awards and distinctions.
All the nominated hotel restaurants in the south:
- Cricketers (Clavering)
- Feathers (Woodstock)
- The pink reading (reading)
- Sonning’s Big House (Reading)
- The Duke of Marlborough (Woodstock)
- Old Parsonage Hotel (Oxford)
- The Old Bell (Hurley)
The Roseate is located opposite Forbury Gardens and is a luxury hotel in a townhouse. It was built in 1911 and was used as the Shire Hall for Berkshire County Council.
The hotel has already been described as ‘the sexiest city hotel in the UK’ by the Evening Standard and has won other accolades as well. With an emphasis on luxury and opulence, the house’s premium suite costs £257 a night.
The property is currently hosting a biscuit-themed afternoon tea inspired by Huntley and Palmers as Reading celebrates 200 years of ‘Biscuit Town’. Afternoon tea is part of the reel of festivities enjoyed in May and June.
Sonning’s Big House
The Great House in Sonning is located beside the River Thames in the beautiful fairytale village of Sonning, just 15 minutes from Reading town centre. The hotel is a popular wedding destination and caters to those who want a bit of rustic charm for their big day.
The venue is connected to the Coppa Club, which is a restaurant well known for its outdoor dining modules. There are Coppa clubs in various other locations around the country including Maidenhead, Henley and Tower Bridge. The food focuses on Europe, offering fresh pastas, sourdough pizzas and grilled meats.
