DOH Press Release: DOH Hands Red Sign to Golden Duck Chinese Restaurant in Honolulu

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) has issued a red sign and closed the Golden Duck Restaurant located at 1221 S. King St. in Honolulu.

The food establishment, operated by Wong and Fu, LLC received the red plate on May 18 and is to remain closed until the DOH performs a follow-up inspection and all violations are resolved.

During a routine inspection conducted on May 18, the DOH inspector found the following critical violations:

  • Food stored at inappropriate cold temperatures;
  • Multiple cases of cross-contamination
  • Improper employee hand washing
  • Cockroaches found in storage area and pest droppings on food containers

The DOH is asking the restaurant to take the following corrective actions before it can reopen:

  • The establishment must correct all temperature violations indicated on the inspection report
  • All cross-contamination issues must be addressed and refrigerators organized to avoid cross-contamination
  • Employees should follow proper hand washing procedure and wash their hands after engaging in any activity that may contaminate hands.
  • Food storage equipment and several areas require cleaning, to remove old food, grease and grime, and other debris.
  • The establishment should remove all unnecessary items in the kitchen and storage areas to prevent the harboring of cockroaches and other pests.

A follow-up inspection took place today.

The DOH Food Safety Branch protects and promotes the health of Hawaii residents and visitors through the education of food industry workers and the regulation of food establishments throughout the state. Management conducts routine health inspections of food establishments where food products are prepared, manufactured, distributed or sold.
