Popular West Auckland establishment The Tasting Shed has been forced to close, unable to make ends meet after the pandemic.

Owners Ganesh and Jo Raj made it official on Tuesday morning, saying Covid-19 and associated lockdowns had made it impossible to pay operating expenses, taxes and rent.

“We have done our best to overcome the effects of the pandemic, but the impact on hospitality has been too difficult for us,” said Ganesh Raj, a popular personality from the television series Eat Well For Less.

“Like many others in this industry, the impacts of the past two years on our business have had a significant impact on my mental health and that of my family, a key factor in making this difficult decision.

“Paying our staff is a priority and we are in discussions with all outstanding creditors.”

The large outdoor dining space and wedding venue in Kumeu announced this month that it would close a week early for the winter.

However, they will not reopen. June 12 was their last day of service for good after ten years, 200 weddings and half a million dinner guests.
