An award-winning Indian restaurant, already crowned Best in the South East, is now in the running to become ‘Best in England’. The Raj Dani at Sevenoaks has been revealed as a finalist for the Food Awards England 2022.

The West Kingsdown curry house was awarded Best Asian Restaurant by the Asian Restaurant Federation in November 2021 and will now compete with other restaurants across the country for the title of ‘Best In England’ in the category Best Indian Establishment, at The Food Awards England 2022.

The awards are organized by Creative Oceanic and celebrate the best in the food industry, from excellent restaurants, chefs and servers to specialists and suppliers. The winners will be announced at a black tie ceremony to be held in Manchester in June this year.

Owner Rob Khan, 36, previously told KentLive they had invested around £100,000 to revamp the restaurant during the lockdown. He said in December last year: “It was a challenge, but we thought about investing rather than closing.

“We have a positive attitude and we were in a dark tunnel but there is always light at the end. And now – once the restrictions are lifted – we are busier than ever.”

The restaurant that prides itself on using fresh, locally sourced produce competes against 19 other finalists from across the country.

A Food Awards England spokesperson said: “England offers a wide range of venues serving cuisines from around the world. Finalists have been voted for by the public for providing authentic recipes and unique dishes to their diners, creating memorable experiences for residents and visitors.

“Without a doubt, there are incredible specialists across the country, who know how to provide excellent service, delicious cuisine and meet the expectations of their diners. These are the professionals we aim to recognize at the Food Awards England 2022.

“We wish all the finalists good luck and look forward to welcoming all of our guests and celebrating the winners with them.”
